I recently purchases a 1985 JD650 2WD tractor with a Woods RM59 5' finish mower. I intend to purchase a 3 pt. rear blade for snow removal. I would appreciate any information from other people using this tractor. Would a 6 foot rear blade for snow removal be too big for this unit? What tasks do you use it for? What Implements do you have? Has it been a reliable tractor? etc. Thank you.

That series of tractors has a very high rating and seems to be a very well but machine. The 50 series was the first of the small compact tractors designed by Deere built in Japan....we all know how strong the Japanese are on their tooling and workmanship....I think you will be very happy with your choice....
The rear blade 6 feet might be a little big....plus you mentioned that your 650 is 2whl drive...I think you could have some problems here....possibly try pushing the snow and make sure you are at an angle.....no matter what you will need added weights and possible chains...does you tractor have turf tires???
Irreguardless...it's a good solid machine that has bred several new generations of small well built compact tractors ....

I have a JD650 4x4. I use a 6ft wide back blade to push snow. In my experience, rear tire chains are much more important when pushing snow than four wheel drive. Get a good set with lots of cross chains. The first set the dealer sold me only had six cross chains. I took them back, went to a different dealer and got a set with about twenty cross chains. My machine has turf tires. They are 15 iches wide and really place alot of chain on the ground. Chains and diff lock will get you through some pretty heavy snow. I don't use wheel weights. I've not needed them. I also use a 6ft york rake but can't go very fast. It really labors the engine. I use a 24 inch wide 3pt dirt scoop to scrape muck out of my pond. It works great! Machine has 2500 hrs and has never failed to start or do what I ask of it. ....
